History of Pilates

Pilates is the art of training the muscles to obey the mind. It is exercise for the mind and body. Pilates is a series of exercises that focus on stretching in various positions in a controlled and precise manner. It requires the use of proper body mechanics, mind to body connection, and strength to execute each exercise properly. In Pilates, stretching and strengthening should be done simultaneously with each exercise. It is a time efficient and multi-beneficial form of exercise.

Pilates is practiced with the six principles of Pilates which are concentration, centering, control, breath, precision and flow in each session. At M Pilates Method we teach the each student to use the powerhouse, which is the specific use of three muscle groups in the body to initiate proper alignment and muscle activation in conjunction with Pilates. This pairing helps each student to rewire their brain to move from the primary muscles (back, core, and glute muscles) of the body rather than from the secondary muscles (arms, legs, neck) of the body while receiving the benefits of Pilates. Pilates is a form of exercise that creates strength, flexibility, and alignment in the body through various forms of stretching exercises. Pilates aligns the mind, body, and soul through physical and mental active meditation. That is why we believe Pilates is one of the most elegant, intelligent, and gentle forms of exercising for any body at any age.
